Every day of every month at GQ, we start your morning on Instagram with visual advice on What to Wear Today. But we want to go deeper. Give you the nuts and bolts of how to get the look into your wardrobe. Today we’re walking you through Lucky Blue’s slick David Bowie-inspired look.
If the Fall 2016 menswear shows have anything to do with it (they do), bomber jackets will continue their reign as the It-jacket of choice for the rest of the year, maybe longer. With that, you might be wondering how to wear one. While slim-straight jeans and jogger pants (à la Kanye West) certainly work, we’re partial to the David Bowie approach: Dressing the jacket up with smart, I-usually-only-wear-these-at-the-office trousers.
Depending on the vibe of your jacket and pants, the look can skew glam-rock god, like Lucky Blue in our January issue, Prince Harry-preppy, or retro in Mark Ronson kind of way. Regardless of the particular effect, the pairing always manages to be the right mix of sophisticated and badass. It’s way less trendy than jeans or sweats, and will take you just about anywhere too—lunch meetings, museum visits, cocktail parties and beyond.
Here, a few combinations to consider. Our recommendation: Splurge on the bomber, save on the pants. http://www.gq.com/story/how-to-wear-a-bomber-jacket
